Student Artwork Update: Andrew Coppa

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

We are pleased to present sculptures by SVACE student Andrew Coppa! Andrew created this artwork in conjunction with numerous courses, including Figurative Sculpture with Dave Cortes and Digital Sculpture with Luis Rodrigo Navarro.

Andrew is a native New Yorker who studied photography at SVA from 1990-1994 as a transfer student. He writes:

“This was a blessing in disguise because it enabled [me] to venture out into multiple facets of art whilst [at SVA]. Since the usual college credits were taken care of at previous schools [I] was able to be like a kid in a candy store and take classes in painting, film, design, writing, computers, video, and advertising.”

Andrew is a professional photographer who works in advertising, editorial, and celebrity photography, and he co-owns Vis Vitae Studios in NYC. He “has never ceased to take continuing education classes over the last 23 years (mostly at SVA) in all mediums. All of these classes greatly influence all of [my] professional and personal works on a daily basis.”

Viewers may agree with Andrew that this show is about his “specific venture into clay and digital sculpture” and that “this experience was more about him pushing himself out of his comfort zone, learning something new, and by having it be more literal it was a clearer gauge to him as far as how he was progressing on his journey.”
