Faculty Updates

May 24th, 2017

What have SVACE faculty members been up to? We have exciting updates from course instructors Charlie Ahearn, Jon Newman, and Richard Schulman.

Charlie Ahearn launched Scratch Ecstasy, a major solo exhibition now on view at PPOW Gallery in Chelsea. As PPOW describes it, the show “reflects the culmination of 25 years of Ahearn’s work mounting shows, publishing books, and making films, offering unparalleled insight into the people who defined the movement and its current influence on contemporary society.”

Jon Newman opened a two-person exhibition with Benny Leung in Hong Kong. Newman writes, “This project is a vehicle to help break the monotony of everyday working life in quiet, subtle moments scattered around the city of Hong Kong. Free-hand, tape patterns were made on discarded objects by both graphic designers. These patterns can be seen as a conversation between the two (even though they speak different languages); they communicated fluently through the graphic elements.”

Richard Schulman has published New Architecture London with Prestel, offering a photographic tour of London’s signature architecture landmarks, such as Rafael Viñoly’s “Walkie-Talkie”, “The Gherkin” by Foster + Partners, Renzo Piano’s mixed-use skyscraper, “The Shard,” and more.
