The Dangerous Lives of Picasso Paintings!
The NYT reported that a woman “accidentally lost her balance and fell into” Picasso’s Rose Period painting, The Actor. Gawker reports that she was a “special needs” student. NYT reader “Dan Stackhouse” notes in the Comments section:
“I’ve got to say, I enjoy the irony of a master painter’s depiction of a graceful acrobat being damaged by a clumsy nobody.”
How post-modern!
In 2006, mega-collector Steve Wynn thrust his elbow through “Le Rêve” while showing it off to friends in his office.

In 1974, artist-turned-dealer Tony Shafrazi (which is street Italian for “sleazy opportunist?”) spray-painted Picasso’s masterpiece, Guernica. Luckily, the spray paint was not archival, and MoMA wiped it away immediately, with just some bleach and Summer’s Eve.
