Pose a Strike: Picasso + Nate Lowman

The Dangerous Lives of Picasso Paintings!

The NYT reported that a woman “accidentally lost her balance and fell into” Picasso’s Rose Period painting, The Actor.  Gawker reports that she was a “special needs” student.  NYT reader “Dan Stackhouse” notes in the Comments section:

“I’ve got to say, I enjoy the irony of a master painter’s depiction of a graceful acrobat being damaged by a clumsy nobody.”

How post-modern!

In 2006, mega-collector Steve Wynn thrust his elbow through “Le Rêve” while showing it off to friends in his office.

In 1974, artist-turned-dealer Tony Shafrazi (which is street Italian for “sleazy opportunist?”) spray-painted Picasso’s masterpiece, Guernica. Luckily, the spray paint was not archival, and MoMA wiped it away immediately, with just some bleach and Summer’s Eve.
